As a voracious reader, I happily went along with the suggestion, looked on and made my purchase on Amazon and then waited for the book to drop on my door mat.

In between doing my tasks for the programme and the more important tasks, jobs my wife had given me, I read the book (all 127 pages) quite quickly so I then sat down and read a couple of chapters each night. This allowed me time to understand and digest the points made in the book.

Basically it is a modern-day parable about one man, John, who is working so hard, but feels that he is not getting his just desserts. As the book opens, he has just lost a major client thereby affecting his quota for the third quarter in a row. He, through a colleague in his office, seeks assistance from Pindar, a legendary consultant, who has helped many people improve their position.

We are taken through five different scenarios over a week where John is shown the five laws (see below) in operation and eventually learns that by giving more of himself to others, he will receive more back. The five laws of “stratospheric success” (according to the authors) are:

Law One – The Law Of Value

Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payments.

Law Two – The Law Of Compensation

Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.

Law Three – The Law Of Influence

Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people’s interests first

Law Four – The Law Of Authenticity

The most valuable gift you have is to offer yourself.

Law Five – The Law Of Receptivity

The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving.

I found the book well written and entertaining. I have always believed in giving more before I read the book so it reinforced my values. I am hopeful that in the future this will lead to more success for me, like it did for John in the book.

If you want to get your own copy, click on the link below and you’ll be taken to Amazon and be able to purchase immediately!

The Go-Giver by Bob Burg and John David Mann

Have you read the book?
